I spoke to the owner of the Bistro on Bridge, also the Featured Crawl Spot this month, and we were discussing about all the new brews they have on tap. One thing that stood out is the amount of Heavy Seas handles they have available They have 3 as of right now and for any bar to have 3 handles from the same brewery, seems kind of odd. Well, bottom line, Bistro on Bridge is one of the popular spots to find Heavy Seas in the area. And that’s a good thing for me, because they’re some of my favorite beers!
One of the beers he said I should try is the Big DIPA, a double IPA that he described as yes, on paper says its strong (with a 10.6%ABV), but actually doesn’t taste it. I was actually given the same description from 2 different people and knew I had to give it a chance. I am a lover of hops, so why not??
So what’s the verdict? Well, yes, it’s exactly how it was described, but flavor wise….it climbed my charts this weekend. This Double IPA is probably one of the least hoppy tasting beers I’ve had. It’s smooth, very creamy and malty, nice orange color that’s filled with cirtus aromas. I mean, I couldn’t believe it. It didn’t come off that strong. The hop factor was average (for an IPA) and just an all around enjoyable brew. You could probably keep drinkin’ this and not realize just how much punch it packs.
BUT with that being said…it is still 10.6% ABV. This ended up kicking me in the butt. So be very cautious when ordering. Most of all, make sure you ate if you plan on having more than one of these. I recommend to all IPA fans or even if you’re not, to give it a shot. I think you’re in for a surprise.
